We are blessed with the gift to make Prayer Blankets for the sick of our Parish. These fleece blankets are made, blessed and sent with our prayers to those who are ill. The group has been busy sewing and cutting blankets. The blankets will be prayed over and blessed at Mass, then given to someone who needs our prayers. If you have someone in your family who is sick, confined to a wheel-chair, or bed-ridden and could use a prayer blanket, call the Parish Office at 847- 255-7452 with your name, telephone number and information.
These ministers provide solace to those unable to leave their homes by providing Eucharist, visiting and praying with parishioners, who may have returned from the hospital, be physically challenged or are otherwise unable to attend Mass. Also, they are trained to provide information about other services available to the homebound. Hospital Visitation- based on hospital policy
Volunteers who have completed Ministry of Care training visit Northwest Community, and Lutheran General hospitals. Parishioners are urged to let their parish name known when admitted and, if possible, have someone call the Parish Office to request visit, anointing, etc. Additional training is provided by the hospital staff. Volunteers may work one day a week or every other week. Again, please, parishioners should notify the Parish office of hospital admissions to ensure a visit is scheduled call the Parish Office at 847- 255-7452 with your name, telephone number and information.
Nursing Home Visitation - based on nursing home policy
Each week volunteers Senior Living communities to conduct a communion service. Residents, many of whom are unable to attend Sunday Mass, have the opportunity to receive the Eucharist, listen to appropriate readings, sing familiar hymns and even receive a Sunday Bulletin. Volunteers receive Ministry of Care training and "on-the-job" training as well call the Parish Office at 847- 255-7452 with your name, telephone number and information.
These facilities also have drivers and caregivers who may arrange to bring the resident to a weekend Mass contact your facility for details about this option.
When funerals are planned at St. Alphonsus Liguori, a member of the Bereavement Ministry contacts the bereaved family and meets with them to plan the funeral Mass readings, music and other necessary arrangements for the Mass. While this is a difficult time for the bereaved, these ministers receive extremely positive feedback for providing this service.
They also follow up with the family later afterwards in gentle and caring manners. Training for this specialized ministry is provided. Only those who have completed this specialized Ministry of Care Bereavement training can participate.
