The works of mercy are charitable actions by which we come to the aid of our neighbor in his spiritual and bodily necessities.²⁴² 

Instructing, advising, consoling, comforting are spiritual works of mercy, as are forgiving and bearing wrongs patiently.

The corporal works of mercy consist especially in feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and imprisoned, and burying the dead.²⁴³ 

Among all these, giving alms to the  poor is one of the chief witnesses to fraternal charity: it is also a work of justice pleasing to God:²⁴⁴
 
If a brother or sister is ill-clad and in lack of daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what does it profit?²⁴⁷

Saint Alphonsus is a Saturday Evening PADS Site

Our doors have been opened since 1990, Fr. Greg Wojcik, Pastor

This is an overnight shelter for our local homeless community. Every Saturday night during these time, we provide a hot dinner, a warm place to sleep, plus breakfast and a lunch for the following day. All guests are vetted (for safety reasons) through JOURNEYS.

• Set-Up Shift - please plan and pre-arrange through the director weeks ahead of time.
• Cook Dinner - please contact Wendy at 224-402-1968
• 1st shift: 7:00pm - 9:00pm/11:00pm (check in)
• 2nd shift: 11:00pm - 3:00am (after dinner, late arrivals, make lunches)
• 3rd shift: 3:00am - 7:00am (Be available, prepare for continental breakfast)
• Clean-up shift: 6:00am - 7:00/7:30am

Located in Palatine, Illinois

(across from Arlington Stadium) (possible future home of the Bears)

Volunteers (from all faiths and parishes) are always needed. 

We volunteer in many shifts throughout the night; including opportunities for FAMILIES to volunteer together.

PADS activity is also covered under the Illinois Good Samaritan Act since the food is given away to those in need free of charge.
